Kaufman’s Stratosphere Fabric Bag

June 25, 2008 by poodlebags

This is the last of that Stratosphere fabric.  This bag will stand on its’ own and it has two different linings inside, one that is just like a stabilizer and the other is a stiff Pellon Peltex stuff.  I turned and topstitched this one, and that was a learning experience.  I’ve only done that with cloth diapers, but that was much easier.   Anyhow, that gives it a much cleaner and nicer look.  It’s hard to get the top even with just turning it over and pinning sometimes.   I made another lil’ zippered bag to go with it since I didn’t put a zipper on the bag.  I’m thinking I’m done with zippers on bags for awhile, it just frustrates me so much.

Another “Cars” bag

June 23, 2008 by poodlebags

Made this bag for someone’s lil’ boy, who just adores it.  It has a bit different checkerboard pattern on the edges than the first one I made.

Flamin’ Hot Bag

June 23, 2008 by poodlebags

I know this bag is a bit different, but I thought the “flames” were cool!  It’s an Alexander Henry fabric called “Wheels on Fire”.  I’ve had it for awhile, and brought it out one day after I got a terrible sunburn.  So, it seemed appropriate to make a Flamin ‘Hot bag that day, ha, ha

This bag has sold.

Disney Pixar movie, “Cars” tote bag

June 17, 2008 by poodlebags

Made this simple tote bag for my son, he loves to carry all his cars with him at ALL times.  So, instead of the basket he was carrying, he is more “stylin’” now, ha!

Alexander Henry’s Koto Fabric Bag

June 15, 2008 by poodlebags

I’ve had this bag in my head for a long time and now it is all alive!!!!  Yea!  It measures rather large, but not super large, and hangs on the hip really comfortably.  The fabric covered button worked perfectly too!  I got that in one of my thrift store finds.  The inner part is fusible liner, and a stiff Pellon liner that makes the bag hold its’ shape.  I was kind of chicken to work with it, because I got the kind that is NOT fusible, but it turned out alright.

Asian Themed Fabric Box Shaped Bag

June 15, 2008 by poodlebags

Asian fabric themed box shaped bag.  This fabric came from Walmart of all places!   I’m not a huge fan of Aisan themed fabric, but this one spoke to me.  I used fusible fleece and fusible liner to give it body.  Even installed a zipper!  The handles came from the thrift store, as I like to get icky bags from there and cut off the cool handles.

Quirkly Lil’ Zippered bag!

June 10, 2008 by poodlebags

I found this quirky zippered bag in a box of sewing stuff I bought at the thrift store.  So, I figured it out and made my own with the Kalahari fabric.  This goes with the bag.  I have no idea what it is called, but it was very easy to make and very useful!

Kalahari Bag

June 10, 2008 by poodlebags

This is a bag I made for a “trade” with a board member, she is knitting me up something fun for my living room.  A throw of some sort, fun stuff!

I made this bag from a pattern so very loosely, basically just used it for something to go by actually.  The fabric is Alexander Henry, Kalahari, hence the name.  The inner has several pockets, and the outside has too velcroed pockets that open up fairly wide.

Three Fat Quarters bag

June 8, 2008 by poodlebags

I used every bit of 3 fat quarters for this bag, and some muslin for the inner.  No pattern, I just made it one afternoon, thinking about what I like in a bag.  This bag has sold :)

Diaper/Messenger Style Bag

June 4, 2008 by poodlebags

Made this for someone requesting this type of bag.  I winged it and used my old diaper bag as a reference.  Lot’s of pockets, and it’s very comfortable.  I used every piece of fabric she sent me too!  It’s an Alexander Henry fabric, but I forget the exact name of it.  I think it came out pretty well.

Busy and Loud Bag

May 24, 2008 by poodlebags

This is a Simplicity 6791 bag pattern, but I made several changes to it.  I thought it would be a handy diaper bag actually.  I’ll have measurements later.

Closeup of Button

I found this material at a thrift store, it was originally used for a valance.  It’s a heavy cotton material and very sturdy.  I had made a bag with it as soon as I got that material home awhile back.  So, today, I took it apart and started over since I know a little tiny bit more about bag making.  I made the liner out of thin black cotton fabric, and decided against using anything fusible because the bag is not really huge.  Plus, it just didn’t feel like it needed it.  I put a pocket on the inner on each side.    I sewed on a neat old button for a simple closure.

It measure 30 inches tall with strap.  The bag itself is 11 1/2 inche tall, and 8 inches wide.  The depth of the bag is 2 inches.  Not a super huge bag, but very usable.

I just love this fabric, I have more to play with, yea!!!!

I’m giving this bag to a special person who inspired me with this bag making venture of mine.  Also, she helps maintain and admin’s a cool message board that I’m on and I so appreciate all the work she does for it.  Plus, she is just a cool chick :-)

A Knitters bag

Had to add top fabric so it would close completely

OuterInner with pockets for knitting needles, phone, etc.

Made this for someone who LOVES wool and knitting.  I’m not a knitter, so wasn’t quite sure what she wanted.   We came up with this.  It opens up completely flat, draw string closure and that is Alexander Henry fabric of course.  I made the inner with duck cloth which is rather thick and heavy, but it is durable plus it matched the fabric.  I had to add some cotton fabric at the top to make it close completely.   There is a round 5 inch bottom so it will sit up when items are “inside” the bag.

Definitely a different bag to make and it was an experience.  ha, ha

Customs and Made-to-Order

May 14, 2008 by poodlebags

Oh my, I don’t believe I like to do “customs” or made-to-order things.  It’s just not my bag, ha, ha!  Nothing personal, but my outlook on this whole bag making thing is like this.  I’m not making bags for money, as I know if I make any money it goes right back into my fabric hoarding addiction, ha!  So, basically what you see is what there is.  I like to sew, make things that are useful and enjoy seeing how it makes someone happy to have a Poodlebag.  As corny as that sounds, it’s true.

Alexander Henry Fabrics

May 14, 2008 by poodlebags

I have found a new addiction, and it’s to a particular line of fabrics made by Alexander Henry.    I made an order today, and it was SOOO hard to choose from the millions of wonderful fabrics they have!   Wow.  So, keep checking in, because I’ll be making something with that fabric!

Cool Circles Bag

May 5, 2008 by poodlebags

I just love this fabric!  It is “Stratosphere” by Robert Kaufman.   This bag is neither too small, or too big.  There are pockets on each side, on the outside, and one pocket on the inner.

Not too big, but not too small

Elvis Bag

Elvis Tote Bag

I’ll be making another bag like this one, but the inner material will be some cool pink Elvis faces I found the other day.  This could be the very first bag I make that will be “for sale”, wow, did I say that? ha, ha!  We’ll see how that goes, as I want to keep the “enjoyment” in my bag making.
